The Mercury Bay area of the Coromandel Peninsula is an area of stunning beaches, bays and walking tracks. Catch the passenger ferry across the river to Ferry Landing and explore further to Cooks Beach, Hahei Beach, Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. Or take one of the scenic boat trips departing from Whitianga to experience this stunning volcanic coastline from the water and perhaps get up close to some marine mammals including dolphins, orcas or seals.
Some of New Zealand's best game fishing can be found just off the coast of Mercury Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula. Species caught in the area include Striped and Blue Marlin, Broadbill, Yellowfin Tuna, Mako Shark, Kingfish and Grouper (Hapuka). Other smaller species available include Snapper, Kahawai, Trevally and John Dory.
